When the Church Awakes | A Response to the Assassination of Charlie Kirk

The heart of God is moving across generations, stirring both young and old to recognize the urgency of our times. Recent events, such as the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, have shaken many to their core, exposing the deep spiritual battle raging in our nation and around the world. These moments, while devastating, serve as a wake-up call, revealing the stark contrast between righteousness and wickedness, and calling the church to rise from its slumber. The parables of Jesus, especially the wheat and the tares and the ten virgins, remind us that not everything that happens is God’s will—there is a real enemy at work, sowing seeds of destruction when we are least vigilant. Yet, God’s patience and mercy are evident, as He waits for the seeds of righteousness to mature, longing for all to come to repentance.

As the darkness becomes more visible, so too does the light. The difference between those who walk with Christ and those who reject Him is becoming increasingly clear. The church is being called to awaken, to be filled with the oil of the Holy Spirit, and to live boldly and unafraid in a world that is growing more hostile to truth. This is not a time for passivity or silence; it is a time to engage, to disciple our children, to shape worldviews according to Scripture, and to stand firm in our identity as followers of Jesus above all political or cultural affiliations.

God is raising up a new generation—one that will not be silenced by fear, hatred, or violence. What the enemy meant for evil, God is turning for good, birthing a movement of boldness, truth, and love. The call is clear: do not sleep while the enemy works, do not let your lamp run out of oil, and do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. The sound of the approaching King is growing louder, and now is the time to be ready, to be filled with the Spirit, and to live on mission. Let us pray for awakening, for courage, and for hearts that are wholly devoted to Jesus, so that when He comes, we will be found faithful and full of oil.

FIVE KEYS TO LIVING ON MISSION IN THESE DAYS OF CRISIS AND CONFUSION

1. Stay Spiritually Awake and Engaged

In times of crisis and confusion, it is tempting to withdraw or ignore the spiritual realities at play. Yet, Scripture warns that the enemy sows seeds of destruction when we are inattentive or spiritually asleep. We must be vigilant, discerning the times, and actively engaging in conversations with our families and communities, shaping their understanding through the lens of God’s Word rather than the world’s narrative.

2. Our Identity Is in Christ, Not in Politics

While it is important to be informed and involved in societal matters, our primary allegiance must always be to Jesus. Elevating any political identity above our identity in Christ is idolatry and leads to confusion and compromise. We are called to be Christians first, letting the teachings and character of Jesus shape our values, decisions, and interactions, even as we navigate a polarized world.

3. Overcome Evil with Good, Not More Evil

The world’s response to evil is often to retaliate in kind, but the way of Jesus is radically different. We are called to respond to hatred, violence, and injustice with prayer, unity, and acts of love. This not only honors God but also serves as a powerful witness to a watching world, demonstrating the transformative power of the gospel in the face of darkness.

4. Live Unafraid and Stand Boldly for Christ

The days ahead may bring increased opposition and persecution for those who stand for truth, but fear must not dictate our actions. God calls us to live courageously, refusing to be silenced or intimidated by the threats of the enemy. Our faithfulness in the face of adversity will inspire others and advance the kingdom, even when the cost is high.

5. Be Filled with the Holy Spirit—Get Oil in Your Lamp

The parable of the ten virgins is a sobering reminder that not everyone will be ready when Christ returns. Now is the time to seek God, to be filled with His Spirit, and to cultivate a vibrant, personal relationship with Jesus. Do not wait for a more convenient moment; the call to readiness is urgent, and the return of the King is nearer than ever.
